Speaking of stronger sounds, it’s a completely different story. I can’t advise the amplifier for Metallica, because it will hardly play well due to the way the albums are made.
Here, the whole system will largely be our variation on how the discs will play – it’s hard to find any reference point here.
Amplifiers on KT lamps
- kt88,
- kt90,
- KT120
- KT150
- KT170
In Push-Pull, i.e. with 4 or 8 lamps per channel and a power of about 100W, they can handle very good control of most loudspeakers and even very large rooms.
Will they play better than transistors? It depends on what kind of amplifier we will have to compare. However, they will certainly play a bit differently. These lamps, however, have a very high zeal to play, energy and openness by nature.
Nevertheless, the KT 30-50W amplifiers usually care much more about the diameter, at the cost of stretching on the bass and dynamics. e.g.jadis da30, with his 30W he supposedly coped with rock – but only with KT lamps, and you still had the impression that he would rather charm with vocals 🙂
In rock, Verdier 220 felt much better, which, like Lar or Leben, did not pamper the scene, colors and reverberation in the midrange … loose.
And that’s how I pick up hardrock.
Low power rock tube amplifier
However, we will achieve the optimal price / quality ratio by opting for loudspeakers with slightly larger converters (8-12 inches) on a stiffer membrane and then even 10-30W the amplifier can do in the 20-40 sq m area
push pullOn EL34 tubes (most guitar amplifiers), EL84 or 6550 will also be a good choice, and you can even try to try 845, 211 or 805 W tubesSingle Ended(If our rock is well realized – the latter will give a more resolution and slightly slimmer in the middle (as a rule).
The KT or 6550 lamp in Single Ended will also work well with such loudspeakers.
Rock is mostly energy, and energy is mainly bass. Small loudspeakers or monitors with bass reflex will have to be compensated with a very powerful and current-efficient amplifier (regardless of whether it will be a transistor, lamp or hybrid), and this will often result in large reflections and boosts on Bass.
The more of this current and less experience, the more problems. Therefore, sometimes it is safer to go into a slightly lower power.
