Inserts for the player mm Ortofon 2M, OM: manual

I completely ignored the vinyl phonograph and promised myself that I would try to write something there.

I could write several articles about Ortofon inserts. I myself owned a dozen models for the occasion of playing vintage turntables a few years ago. My almost neighbor was Myshor with Winyl.net who passionately bought more expensive MC models, Orthophone books, test boards, etc.

I had or still have Ortofon: MC10, MC20, MC10 super, MC10 Super mk2, MC15 super, MC 20 super, MC20 super Mk2, Rohmann, Jubilee, Cadenza Black, Quintet Black, Quintet Red. at Myshor, we also compared what is more interesting with Windfeld.

Ortofon MC20 super, MC15 super i Mc10 Mk2 z mojej kolekcji… na pleckach

Below is a small userguide.

What does the om Orthophone sound like?

OM10, OM20, OM30, OM40, OM5E, as well as Super OM10, Super OM20, Super OM30, Super OM40 you will find many old Torans, Duals, Techniques.

Should we be worried or happy about how this is happening?

The OM10 is the equivalent of today’s 2M Red. slightly more neutral, the Super OM10 has a slightly better generator. For OM10 or OM20, this will not be a cavernous difference.

Ortofon OM10

You should know that the vintage insert can be clogged, but it wasn’t that long ago that you could buy noses, and some inserts were predicted on turntables unused and can play for years.

Ortofon Super OM20

These are very good entry-level inserts. OM20 is suitable for the vast majority of users. OM30 (Fine Line cut – today in 2m Bronze) and especially 40 (Fritz Gyger cut) are already rarities, and when you get to them, you should pray for a good condition, because these are capital inserts.

OM 10,20,30,40 differ in needles-higher nr=better seam
better stitching – > more detail, precision, space… and, as a rule, the impression that the mountains, and often that less… warm.

How does the 2M Orthophone sound?

2M Red – OM10
2M Blue – OM20
2M Bronze – OM30
2M Black – OM40

Bronze and Black have better generators than Red and Blue. Needles are compatible, but Red zupgrade to bronze needle… it’s not the same anymore.

Ortofon 2m Red- podstawowa, ale bardzo pewna wkładka z obecnej produkcji.

The 2M Red plays warmly-I’d say that next to the AT95, it’s the best entry-level liner, which on its own will give the sound that most black disc fans are looking for

2m Blue-slightly more detail than 2M Red, we can say that the game is cleaner – with a low level of pre MM, which podmulate is likely to be much more interesting.

2m Bronze-it already gets a bit tricky here, because it’s good to have a slightly better hand with adjustments-a thin line is more sensitive to azimuth tuning or VTA. Without these settings, it will also play normally. More sophistication, space and detail from its predecessors

2m Black-just like with Bronze – a good hand is indicated. The game is retail, velvety, and dynamic. Of the mm inserts currently being released, a very strong position, in this budget it’s actually hard to beat when it comes to the new mm’s. The sound has warmed up a bit.

Well, about MMKI, probably everything. Even older series-510, 520, 530, 540-as in the case of the above. 510 and 520 are very cool. 530 and 540 are inserts very well compared to those that are on the shelves of stores today are 2000-4000zł.

Jaki Preamp Phono do Ortofona 2M / OM?

The sound of vinyl is a turntable, insert, arm, and preamp. Here you can kick a lot and lose potential, whether it’s a turntable or a good insert, without skilfully choosing the compilation parameter, or processing, for example, the 2M black pre insert integrated into the player or amplifier.

A good pre Phono separates at least such a difference as the 2M Red insert from the 2M Black one from the main one.

From 2m Bronze up, it’s worth getting into a phono preamp with at least the equivalent of an insert. It costs even more because it doesn’t wear out.

What is the sound of a pre-gramophone to an Orthophone?

Orthophones are fairly flat and neutral inserts that do not prefer stripes. Lower-end models will do better with slightly brighter preamps, although these cheaper, brighter pres will generally be a bit brighter.

I highly recommend Tube Pre-Phono-Ortek to play with them.
I also recommend the ones that are a bit warmer if vinyl is supposed to charm, but that’s what we’re already choosing for the system.

When choosing an orthophone beforehand that is relatively neutral or clear / analytical, we can conclude that our black disc looks more like a CD than vinyl.

Ortofon, a Audio Technica

In fact, this is a well-chosen Orthophone with a preliminary day and night, which I put on top of the currently released mm Audio Technica inserts. AT artificially brightens the sound and gives the impression of a slightly retracted diameter (min vocals).

Do not set yourself on fire with super-grinding Shibata in cheap models. Unless someone has a strong dark system and lacks a mountain. However, as a rule, Orthophones sound more accurately and truthfully on vocals.

The only MM AT inserts that are becoming really popular are the AT15 or AT20SLa – that is, very vintage models. ATSLa, in my opinion, plays cooler than 2m Black, but lately, as I checked, it’s already worth a nightmare of money.
