The gramophone was brought from Germany, it appeared on an alley in the vicinity of Torun, and it seemed to me that I had a business trip there. It was brought by a typical merchant, but the condition was excellent, it had a good Ortofon MC3 Turbo insert, which at that time seemed like a cool addition (Ortofon, a good Fine Line touch and the MC insert type already portends a good game).
Unfortunately, the insert itself didn’t give me enough time. When I moved the record player, my shoulder broke out and the needle support split… After turning it over and consulting with more experienced users, I decided to buy an Ortofon Super OM30 insert suitable for its weight and sensitivity-the equivalent of the familiar and beloved 2m Bronze today.
Golden 1 accompanied me through the craziest time of my audio teaser, when I was still regularly going shopping and private sellers. He went with me to Pabjanic (q21), Chehovič-Dzedzec, where audio-ono was just beginning, or to the headquarters of YB Audio. I was under the assumption that you should listen with your source, so I lost it everywhere, as befits a young audiophile with ambition 🙂

Over time, I was cured of it, but the fact that I stuffed it and installed it was mine…
The turntable itself wasn’t the best choice for promoting the vinyl theme. Admittedly, it played very well, and over time I’ve put in earbuds like the iconic TRX-2 ADC or the prominent Coral MC 82 nose with a Van Den Hul facet. However, the hand itself is quite restrictive, because it applies to slightly-medium and correct, but not the highest flights. The base, plinta is light and hollow. The legs look more like they suppress resonances, because the soft suspension was responsible for this function. It all sounded good, and as it usually does in vinyl – a good insert and a good pre phono let you really squeeze a lot out of it. However, calibration has always been considered unattractive, so to put your hand on the calibration template, you had to connect the player to the current and remove the belt. A plastic and lightweight headdress can hardly be considered meeting modern audiophile standards.
However, the Golden 1 was certainly a beautiful gramophone that did little to adorn our living room in its shape. Every person who came to us paid attention to him. A prerequisite for a proper presentation, of course, was to remove the lid and vacuum it with a rag several times a day.
Still priced at around 3,000 zlotys, I think it’s the right choice – much better than modern turntables, new with a close budget. Its design is ‘hate it or love it’ – if you like it, it’s hard to buy something like that (well, maybe a basic Dual 455 gold). The undoubted advantage of Golden is also semi-automatic-after the end of the black disc, the drive stops, and the hand rises. A damn useful solution for lazy evenings or naps. You can quickly get used to it.
