Mr. Rafał is a seemingly perfect client – one who calls and wants to act – already, or actually yesterday, and he has a budget to play in audio at a level where I play, or actually even much higher.
Looking at its room, I saw that there would be problems – a beautiful house in the center of Wrocław, a 60 sq m showroom open for another nearly 100 sq m.
One wall is glass – a view of the Oder, a road wall is also glass – a view of a tree sunk in the middle of the house. Fortunately, the first one is driven by a thick curtain. The walls are almost bare, with 2 large sofas on the sides.
In addition, a listening place about 10 meters from the speakers – almost a recipe for drowning money and not having a good game.
The expectations were as follows:
- It’s fun to play quietly
- We focus on the quality of the music (so the cinema, hanging speakers under the ceiling have fallen off)
- It’s good if there was a nice lamp (in the sense of an amplifier) on a hand-painted chest of drawers
- And the columns, of course, are to match the design of the room
Mr. Rafał listened on small B&W monitors, but as he finally dealt with three architects and builders / finishers (well, 95%), he said that it would be nice to finally listen to music.
From favorable circumstances it is the fact that Mr. Rafał does not have a stupor / time eater installed in the living room – i.e. a TV set (maybe, that is why he has such a nice big house), I could save myself some 40 minutes on translating why home theater was not It will be good for music and we have to go stereo.
However, we explained to ourselves that the housing circumstances are moderately favorable and we have started to act.
Research – what columns
So it was known that for it to work – the loudspeakers must be large. I sent some photos – Tannoy, Klipsch Cornwall IV, then we listened to meAudio Revival Atalante 5, Tannoy Glenair, a few lamps, Harbeths, to catch more or less where he pulls Mr. Rafał’s ear … As I expected – it went towards Tannoy.
The first choice was Tannoy SRM 15X – Rafał liked the idea of having Adelka speakers.
Wojtek from Drezdenko has such srmy in his collection and we were supposed to go there to listen. It turned out, however, that one of the stores in Warsaw has a promotion onFyne Audio Classic XIIAnd that Mr. Rafał does not start the audio adventure with 50-year-old ultra-specific loudspeakers that do not love live acoustics … We went a bit safer.
The price of PLN 27,000 for such columns is ‘take and run’. We also passed the Unison, Synthesis, Musicala Fidelity A1, NO and BAT amplifiers.And from the video. Of course, the BAT was the best, but the price was prohibitive, taking into account the need to buy a source.
There was a Naim Unity Star in the store’s commission and because he also had a CD, a streamer and he spoken with these loudspeakers – we left with him to have a source and in general, so that Mr. Rafał would have something on it auscultate.
We had a good dinner in an Italian pub, and in the meantime, the store team packed us with carton columns that were in stock in the second part of the city.
We left ours at the exit from the capital in a traffic jam and at 1:00 we unloaded parcels in the ‘glass house’.
