A list that I would not have thought of myself – but life put it together so much … and I liked it so much that instead of divided Recek, I decided that I would do one.
I don’t use hi-end by accident. This combination of sound competes calmly with the current hi-ends, so it would be a pity to stay in the hifi world.
I hunted Spendory FL9 for about a year. I saw them abroad for the first time when I had no loose cash.
However, I did my research and added them to those worth buying in the future.
This spring, there was an option to buy in an even better condition … Well, so I have to put them in the tests.
FL9
FL9 is a loudspeaker from the period when old audiophiles say Spendor didn’t play like they used to. As the owner of the absolutely iconic S100, I was very curious. Especially that the FL9 is a floor covering from the same series – Classic.
There is an inscription on the coverHand Crafted. The whole thing is perfectly made and shows what a qualitative regression we have in the case of larger-scale loudspeakers.
I would say that we have a theme similar to Tannoy Glenair 10. It’s not the same as Deep Vintage models, but … It would be stupid to focus only on what is not there.
Although the FL9s are considered quite current-loving – connected with Sun Audio 2A3 (3.5W), or Cary 300B + JM Lab Spectral (already belonging toJack) played very well. As befits Spendor – the diameter is excellent, although you could feel that more watts would not hurt them.
FL9 vs Legendarys100It has a much faster, more textured bass. However, the way the scene is presented (delicately under the tie) and the diameter (Pastelovo and naturally) are very similar.
FL9 I fastened with, among othersSun Audio 2A3, Audion 300B Parallel SE and EAR 834L monoblocks, iconicAudio Note P1SE, probably even more iconic divide by Quad 405-2, Tangent monoblocks. It was always interesting. With Tangent and Audion, however, too thin. With Sun, you could feel that watts would come in handy. P1se a bit too warm.
The advantage of this model is the suspensions – in older slashes they stiffened and lost their color. Here they are as soft as new and the transducers have the appropriate tilt.
How Spendor met Atoll
And a friend of Grzesiek, with whom I started to play in audio during the last meeting years later (with whiskey fromJack) he hinted that Atoll was in arrears in his closet. With Grzesiek, we have children of similar age who go to the same kindergarten. By changing our priorities, even though we live close to the audio topics, we have gone away.
When Atoll told me, rememberingAVS 2024I was quite sure that FL9 would be a great partner for him.
So I put FL9 in a larger room this time – 35 sq m open to the dining room and a corridor in a single-family house.
I fired up. And it played. Of course, embellished with my favorite set with SoTM and Merason.

… is a fantastic combination of dynamics, pratu atoll, bass energy with pastelness, spendor culture.
Really a great center for a transistor, very good space. There is no such refinement of the more expensive lamps or the best class transistors. However, it is very good. When I heard the first songs and remembered the last listening sessions of store sets for several dozen / several hundred thousand. PLN from AudioShow I only smiled under my breath.
Even though I am a lantern, I like such playing from a transistor. Atoll with most modern columns is dispassionate and ‘transistor’ in a negative sense (simplified, boring, ordinary, so-so)
It’s good that Grzesiek did not hear it. He plays today on DIY Tannoy in boxes made of Baltic plywood and a split Pass Labs clone prepared by the Serb, for which he has been waiting for 2 years, and I shoot that the material itself cost him more than this list.
The whole thing was really synergistic. Energy, nice color, full diameter. Addictive as hell.
Summation
Fl9It is, above all, a neat and compact floor covering. Narrow, with a frontal br. She found herself in 20 and 35 sq m without any problems.
The strong point of FL9 in this list is bass. Spendor diameter is always top. Top – well sewn, not overly retail. It doesn’t bother, but it’s very ok.
This is a really great combination with Atoll without complexes, you can put it at home and listen to it for years. It shows how great you can have a sound without spending a fortune.
I rate comprehensively FL9 higher thanATC SCM40which I am a big fan of, as well as Living Voice IBX-R2, orauditorium. Although it is of course a slightly different game and it will depend on your taste.
Fl9It has a bigger momentum, dynamic freedom, sounds better quiet and … it’s just a game.
There is no point in escalating the excitement more. Such fun for such money? Music lovers and audiophiles like this …
